ADIA LAB – CALL FOR PAPERS 2023

Terms and Conditions for Submissions

The ADIA Lab Call for Papers is open to any author (excluding ADIA employees or contractors and their family members) who wishes to submit their own original paper in response to the “Call for Papers” on the ADIA Lab website.

By submitting a paper, authors are deemed to have read and accepted these terms and conditions.

All submissions will be evaluated by ADIA Lab in its sole discretion, and the decision to make any award is final.

ADIA Lab reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to change these terms and conditions or to cancel, suspend and/or modify the ADIA Lab Call for Papers at any time.

Eligibility Criteria for an award

Papers (or a link to the paper if published or hosted externally) must be submitted before the deadline of December 31, 2023 at midnight (Abu Dhabi time).

Submissions must be sent to the e-mail address: Paper.Award.2023@adialab.ae.  Authors must include their names, affiliations, and contact details.  Valid submissions include:

  • unpublished papers

  • papers published in pre-print form or under journal review

  • journal articles published after January 1, 2022, as long as a pre-print version is publicly available

ADIA Lab may award a monetary award to the authors of the top three papers as determined by ADIA Lab.  Any award will be paid by ADIA Lab, and may be subject to the successful author completing any additional requirements that may be required by ADIA Lab.  ADIA Lab may also award a certificate to any author whose work is considered of significant merit.

To be considered for an award, an author must be available to present their paper to the ADIA Lab judges in a format or medium to be determined by ADIA Lab and on a date to be determined by ADIA Lab.  ADIA Lab may publish a link to the winning papers on the ADIA Lab website.

Employees and contractors of Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA) and their immediate family members are not eligible for an award.

Authors have no right of review of any decisions made in relation to the assessment of submissions or granting of an award.

Intellectual Property

By submitting a paper, authors represent and warrant that their submission is an original work of authorship, does not incorporate any confidential information and does not violate any third party’s proprietary or intellectual property rights. If any submission infringes upon the intellectual property right or other right of a third party, it will be disqualified in ADIA Lab’s sole discretion.

In submitting their paper the author shall either: (a) if the paper is unpublished, automatically grant to ADIA LAB and its affiliates a royalty-free, non-exclusive licence to download, print and view the submission in paper or electronic form for the purpose of reviewing and considering the submission; or (b) if the paper is published online, provide ADIA Lab with a link to access the paper from the relevant journal.

Authors release, indemnify, defend and hold harmless ADIA Lab and its affiliates, and their directors, employees, representatives and contractors from and against any and all claims, expenses, and liabilities (including reasonable attorneys’ fees), including but not limited to negligence and damages of any kind to persons and property, defamation, slander, libel, violation of right of publicity or infringement of any third party copyright, trademark or other intellectual property rights arising out of or relating to an author’s submission.

Personal Data

Authors warrant that the information provided in connection with a submission, including all personal data, is complete, true and accurate. The applicant must not submit any paper under the name of another person.

Any personal data provided to ADIA Lab in connection with a submission or an award will be handled in accordance with the ADIA Lab Privacy Policy and the ADGM Data Protection Regulations 2021.

By accepting an award, authors consent to the use of their name, country of residence, academic background and image for use on the ADIA Lab website and other reasonable purposes without further payment.  Authors waive any right to inspect or approve such activities and release and discharge ADIA Lab from any claims or liability relating to the reasonable use of such personal data.

General Conditions

Any failure to enforce any terms of these terms and conditions shall not constitute a waiver of that provision. Should any provision of these terms and conditions be or become illegal or unenforceable in the United Arab Emirates, such illegality or unenforceability shall leave the remainder of these terms and conditions including the term or condition affected, to the fullest extent permitted by law, unaffected and valid. Words importing the singular shall include the plural and vice versa.

Payment of award money will be made by bank transfer and in US dollars. Payment of any amounts is subject to the UAE’s Anti-Money Laundering and Counter Terrorist Financing laws.  All taxes that may be imposed on the receipt of award money are the sole responsibility of the recipient author.

These terms constitute the entire agreement between an author and ADIA Lab in relation to the Call for Papers, superseding any prior agreements (including, but not limited to, any prior versions of these terms and conditions).

These terms and conditions are subject to the laws of Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM) and the Federal laws of the UAE and by submitting a paper the author agrees to submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the ADGM Courts.
