The 2025 ADIA Lab Seminar Series in being held with our partners ADIA Lab, Abu Dhabi Machine Learning, and the ADGM Academy Research Centre to explore the role of AI in climate science, health sciences, and the digital economy.
Our first session will be led by Professor Torsten Hoefler, Computer Science Department, ETH Zurich, Khaled AlNuaimi, PhD candidate at Khalifa University, and Longkang Li, PhD candidate at MBZUAI.
Seminar Overview
Prof. Hoefler discusses the evolution of Large Language Models (LLMs), highlighting their development through advancements in computation and optimization. He examines the 1,000x cost reduction that has made LLMs accessible on portable devices and introduces "constructive hallucination," enabling new knowledge creation through reasoning. He also reviews reasoning models like OpenAI's o1 and o3, which enhance capabilities but increase computational demands. Finally, he outlines his Ultra Ethernet initiative, aiming to set a new interconnect standard for future AI workloads, ensuring efficiency in the era of advanced reasoning models.
