In March, an agreement was signed with the Kingdom of Spain, through the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, to establish ADIA Lab’s European headquarters in Granada, Spain. As part of the agreement, ADIA Lab has launched five research programs with Spanish universities and research institutions focusing on:
Causal discovery and experimental design in public health
Economic modelling of climate change and its mitigation policies
Digital economy, distributed ledger technology and tokenization
High-performance computing
Interpretable AI and trustworthy automation
ADIA Lab is already collaborating on these topics with numerous universities in Spain, including the Universities of Granada, Salamanca, Oviedo, Santiago and Jaume I, as well as the Centre for Biomedical Research (CIBER). Through their agreements with ADIA Lab, these universities will also partner with UAE universities, in research and exchange programs.
H.E. Iñigo de Palacio España, Ambassador of Spain to the UAE, said: “With this Award, we would like to acknowledge ADIA Lab for its invaluable efforts in strengthening the scientific and research relationship between Spain and the UAE, particularly in Artificial Intelligence. We would like to honour the crucial role played by ADIA Lab in promoting exchanges and forming a network between our institutions and universities, particularly by establishing the headquarters of ADIA Lab Europe in Granada.”
Dr Horst Simon, Director of ADIA Lab, said: “We are honoured to receive this award and are proud to be playing a role in enhancing ties between the active and vibrant scientific communities of the UAE and Spain. Collaboration is central to our approach to advancing data and computational sciences around the world and, through ADIA Lab’s European HQ in Granada, we have been able to partner with some of Spain’s leading institutions in these fields. We are excited about what we can achieve together.”
