ADIA Lab Appoints Nobel laureate Prof. Guido Imbens to its Advisory Board

ADIA Lab, has announced that Professor Guido Imbens, Applied Econometrics Professor at the Stanford Graduate School of Business and Professor of Economics in the Economics Department at Stanford University, has joined its Advisory Board.

Professor Imbens specialises in econometrics, and in particular methods for drawing causal inferences from experimental and observational data.

In 2021, he shared the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences, officially named the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel, with David Card and Joshua Angrist for

“methodological contributions to the analysis of causal relationships”.

He is a fellow of the Econometric Society, the Royal Holland Society of Sciences and Humanities, the Royal Netherlands Academy of Sciences, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the American Statistical Association, and an elected member of the National Academy of Sciences.

ADIA Lab focuses on Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and High-Performance and Quantum Computing, across all major fields of study, with an emphasis on applications to societally important challenges.

Dr Horst Simon, Director of ADIA Lab, said: “Professor Guido Imbens' research in econometrics and statistics, particularly in the realm of causal inference, is of paramount significance in today's data-driven world. His expertise in methodologies such as matching estimators, instrumental variables, and regression discontinuity designs is a valuable asset. We are delighted to welcome Professor Imbens to ADIA Lab as his insights will play a pivotal role in our exploration of these critical topics with far-reaching applications."

With the addition of Professor Imbens, ADIA Lab’s Advisory Board comprises 10 internationally-renowned scientists from various data and computationally-intensive disciplines. The Advisory Board oversees the development and implementation of the Lab’s research agenda and programmes.
