ADIA Lab and Crunch Lab Launch Causal Discovery Challenge

ADIA Lab is pleased to announce the launch of its second machine learning competition in collaboration with Crunch Lab: The ADIA Lab Causal Discovery Challenge.

This competition focuses on advancing the field of Causal Discovery in AI.

Developing brilliant machines requires understanding cause and effect, going beyond mere correlations that can be misleading. The ADIA Lab Causal Discovery Challenge invites participants to uncover interactions between variables through causal-directed acyclic graphs (DAGs). This approach is applicable across diverse domains, including healthcare, economics, social sciences, environmental science, and education.

Participants receive a dataset of observations of a set of variables, and their task is to discover the causal directed acyclic graph (DAG) that defines the relationships between them. They need to estimate the causal graph of each test dataset, and the scoring metric is based on accurately identifying the role of all nodes on X->Y.

Key details:

  • Total prize pool: $100,000 USD

  • Top prize: $40,000 USD for the overall winner

  • Additional prizes for the top 10 entries

  • Registration opens: July 25, 2024

  • Submission starts: August 1, 2024

  • Competition period: August 1, - October 24, 2024

The challenge benefits from the expertise of the ADIA Lab Advisory Board, including Prof. Guido Imbens, Prof. Miguel Hernan, and Prof. Marcos Lopez de Prado, who have been instrumental in designing the competition and will remain engaged throughout.

ADIA Lab invites data scientists and machine learning researchers to participate in this challenge as contributions will help advance causal AI and its real-world applications.
